Texas is one of many states that does not tax the sale of numismatic coins or gold, silver or platinum bullion. That means buyers do not have to pay the tax if the precious metals are purchased from a Texas precious metals dealer – either through the internet or over the phone – and not shipped to a state that has a sales tax.

Texas has an sales tax exemption for gold, silver, and platinum bullion purchases, as well as purchases of certain numismatic coins. The exemption only kicks in for purchases of at least $1,000, after the face value of any coins has been subtracted.
